Sonja Epting

Piano Faculty

Sonja holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from Baylor University, where she was the recipient of the school's award in Piano Pedagogy. She continued her studies at Baylor, receiving a graduate teaching assistantship and graduating with distinction with a Master's Degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance. As well as teaching piano, Sonja spent ten years as a Kindermusik instructor. She enjoyed introducing young children to music and having many of them continue their studies with her in piano. She has been teaching piano for twenty years and has prepared students for college auditions, the ISMTA Achievement in Music Exams, local festivals and competitions. Her students have received top honors in solo and duet divisions of the Illinois Music Association, Geneva Grandquist and Southwest Suburban Piano Competitions. Sonja's performance experience includes piano solo, duet and chamber music performances and she is also active as an accompanist, church musician and adjudicator. Sonja is a member of the Naperville Chapter of the Music Teacher's National Association and currently serves as their workshop coordinator. She has been a member of the SPA music faculty since 1994.
